Books Binding Us Together
Literacy By The Bay presents “Books Binding Us Together”—a community literacy initiative offering curated book conversation circles for local organizations, schools, and businesses. Through shared reading and dialogue, participants engage in meaningful discussions that deepen understanding, build connection, and expand perspectives towards both individual and social change. It’s a fun way to be in community and share in the many ways literature transforms us.
Why it matters—At a time marked by social fragmentation, stress, and information overload, people are seeking opportunities to connect authentically and think critically. This initiative provides inclusive spaces for reflection, empathy, and the joy of community.
Who this is for—Bay Area nonprofit and for-profit organizations, libraries, schools, and community groups from high school through older adulthood.
How it works—Monthly book choices are listed on our website three months in advance. Schedule a book circle leader to lead a conversation for your group via a virtual gathering on zoom or in person at a specified location. Choose from the monthly book choice or one of our previous book selections. As a community initiative, the cost is based on a gift economy with a suggested donation between $0-$500. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the non-profit community literacy efforts of Literacy By The Bay. In addition, books for your group may be purchased through Sausalito By The Bay bookstore at a 10% discount.
